Pichai Says Google Sacrifices Cloud Revenue for Frontier AI

Oct 20, 2026
Google is prioritizing computing capacity for frontier AI research even when that limits the cloud resources it can sell, CEO Sundar Pichai said.

Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai said Google is forgoing cloud revenue to reserve computing capacity for frontier AI research, in an interview with Big Technology. He called having enough compute for frontier work non-negotiable.

Pichai said current capacity reflects infrastructure decisions made in 2024 because data centers and custom computing systems require long lead times. Google now plans capacity two to three years ahead, while demand from AI coding tools and other agent based products continues to exceed earlier forecasts.

Pichai also said Gemini 4 Argon processed nearly 25 trillion tokens during its first 72 hours, about three times the volume recorded by Gemini 3 during the same period. He said Google is capacity constrained while serving the model.

Tensordyne Napier: What If One Rack Could Do the Work of Nine?

Tensordyne

This Tensordyne whitepaper presents Napier, an inference-focused AI processor and rack-scale system based on the company’s TDN Math logarithmic number system. It examines infrastructure requirements for large mixture-of-experts and agentic models, compares major inference architecture approaches, and details the TDN AIP processor, TDN72 pod, TDN Link fabric, and Napier Ultra configuration. The paper reports simulation-based performance, cost, and accuracy-validation results, including Tensordyne’s projected comparison of one Napier rack with a nine-rack Nvidia Rubin plus Groq deployment; the chip is reported as taped out and in fabrication.
