Powercast Unveils Wireless Charging to Combat Battery Waste

Sep 26, 2025
Powercast CEO Charles Goetz discusses the company's RF technology that enables wireless charging over distance, aiming to reduce battery waste and power IoT and AI devices.

Powercast has introduced a groundbreaking solution to address the environmental challenge of battery waste through its patented radio frequency (RF) technology. Announced in a press release, Powercast's innovation allows for true wireless charging over distances, capturing ambient radio waves and converting them into usable DC power. This technology can charge devices from a few inches to over 80 feet away.

Powercast CEO Charles Goetz highlighted the environmental benefits of this technology, which aims to reduce the billions of batteries that end up in landfills each year. The company's RF technology is set to revolutionize the way consumer electronics, industrial sensors, and medical devices are powered, offering a sustainable alternative to disposable batteries.

Goetz envisions a future where devices are seamlessly powered and connected, reducing the need for manual battery replacements. This innovation is particularly significant for the Internet of Things (IoT) and artificial intelligence (AI) at the edge, where small, distributed devices will autonomously gather data and make decisions. Notably, Samsung's eco-friendly TV remotes, utilizing Powercast's technology, are expected to prevent 700 million batteries from reaching landfills over the next decade.
