Quantinuum Finalizes $100 Million CHIPS Funding Agreement

Quantinuum finalized a $100 million federal funding agreement to expand research and manufacturing for trapped ion quantum computing in the United States.

Quantinuum finalized the $100 million CHIPS funding agreement outlined in a May letter of intent with the U.S. Department of Commerce, the company said in a press release. The funding will support research and manufacturing capacity for quantum semiconductors in the United States.

The work focuses on scaling fault tolerant quantum computers based on trapped ions. GlobalFoundries will manufacture new ion traps and other electronic components using 300 mm wafer technology.

Monarch Quantum will develop and manufacture scalable lasers and optical components for Quantinuum systems. The projects will also focus on component reliability, reproducibility and reduced system complexity.
