Research Grid's AI Automates Clinical Trial at Queen Mary University
Research Grid has successfully automated a three-year clinical trial at Queen Mary University of London, announced in a press release. The AI engine was able to digitize thousands of pages of patient records in seconds, eliminating a 5% human error rate and saving over 24,000 staff hours. This automation reduced data entry costs from $1.5 million to just $6,000.
The trial, which involved over 600 patients, demonstrated the potential of AI to handle complex clinical trial administration, including tasks like processing handwritten text and anonymizing data. This marks a significant step forward in the use of AI in medical research, where over 80% of data is still entered manually.
Professor Anthony Mathur, the study lead at Queen Mary's William Harvey Research Institute, highlighted the potential of this technology to improve the efficiency and accuracy of clinical trials. The success of this trial suggests a promising future for AI in streamlining research workflows and reducing administrative burdens in healthcare.
