Schneider Electric Unveils Software Defined Switchgear for AI Data Centers

Sep 28, 2026
Schneider Electric introduced new switchgear and power systems for AI data centers, including an architecture now deployed at an Equinix facility.

Schneider Electric announced in a press release new switchgear and power systems for AI data centers at YOTTA 2026 in Las Vegas. Its software defined medium voltage architecture is operating at an Equinix colocation data center, with pilot programs continuing through 2027 and wider availability planned for 2028.

Schneider Electric says the architecture can make ordering and manufacturing up to three times faster, halve commissioning time and support upgrades without downtime. A 20 panel comparison found that it used 87% less control wiring, 91% fewer terminals and 85% less copper for wiring than conventional custom engineered switchgear.

The company also introduced RM AirSeT 38 Software Defined, which extends its SF6 free medium voltage platform from 24 kV to 38 kV. Orders are planned to open in 2027, followed by initial deliveries in 2028.

Galaxy VXL, another product in the portfolio, is a modular uninterruptible power supply that delivers up to 1.25 MW in one frame. Schneider Electric says it uses up to 70% less space than predecessor systems. The system is available globally and supports lithium ion and VRLA batteries.
