Scientific Systems Unveils VENOM Autonomous Surface Vehicle
Scientific Systems has introduced its latest innovation, the Vehicle for Expeditionary Naval Over-the-Horizon Missions (VENOM), a small Unmanned Surface Vehicle (sUSV) designed to meet the U.S. Navy's need for interceptors. Announced in a press release, VENOM is now available for procurement by the Department of Defense and other government agencies.
VENOM is a 9-meter-long multi-mission vehicle featuring a high-density polyethylene hull and a 300HP diesel engine. It can achieve speeds over 35 knots and has a range exceeding 500 nautical miles at 24 knots. The vehicle's autonomy allows it to navigate contested waters, avoid obstacles, and engage in missions such as force protection and maritime patrols.
Developed in collaboration with Tideman Marine and Sea Machines, VENOM is designed for rapid manufacturing scalability, ensuring quick delivery to meet defense needs. The vehicle's architecture supports mission-level collaboration among multiple autonomous vessels, aligning with the Navy's vision for large-scale unmanned operations.
