SeoulTech Develops Artificial Synapses for Next-Gen AI Chips
Seoul National University of Science and Technology (SeoulTech) has developed artificial synapses that mimic human brain functions, potentially revolutionizing AI hardware. This breakthrough was announced in a press release by the university.
Dr. Eunho Lee and his team at SeoulTech have designed organic semiconductors with glycol side chains to improve artificial synapses. This innovation enhances ion transport efficiency, a critical factor for developing advanced neuromorphic computing hardware. The research, featured in the Materials Horizons Emerging Investigator Series, highlights a new approach to creating energy-efficient AI chips.
The artificial synapses developed by Dr. Lee's team could be used in ultra-low-power co-processors for wearables, cameras, and IoT devices, enabling always-on sensing and adaptive learning with minimal energy consumption. Additionally, these materials are suitable for bio-based interfaces, suggesting applications in health monitoring and environmental diagnostics.
