Shadeform launches Spot and Flex VMs for idle GPU capacity

Oct 20, 2026
Shadeform launches Spot and Flex VMs, allowing GPU providers to sell unused capacity through its marketplace while retaining access to their hardware.

Shadeform launches Spot, a marketplace option that lets GPU providers resell idle capacity at discounted rates, the company said in a press release. It also announced Flex VMs in a separate press release, a virtualization layer that converts bare metal GPU nodes into single tenant virtual machines.

Providers can enroll a node with a script and offer it through Spot when it is unused. They can reclaim the hardware for their own workloads, while buyers receive advance notice before an instance is withdrawn. Shadeform says approved Flex VM nodes can be enrolled in about 30 minutes.

Spot is intended for workloads that can tolerate interruptions, including checkpointed training, batch inference, rendering and large scale experiments. Shadeform estimates that revenue from idle capacity can offset 29% of infrastructure contract value on average.
