Shield AI Unveils Upgraded V-BAT with Advanced Autonomy and Heavy-Fuel Engine
Shield AI has unveiled the latest upgrade to its V-BAT drone, featuring advanced autonomy capabilities powered by Hivemind, as announced in a press release. The new V-BAT model offers Group 4 and 5 capabilities within a Group 3 package, designed to address operational challenges such as threat detection in GPS- and communications-denied environments, border security, and maritime surveillance.
The upgraded V-BAT now includes a heavy-fuel engine optimized for JP-5 fuel, extending its endurance beyond 13 hours and ensuring compatibility with naval operations. It also features a fully unassisted vertical launch and landing capability, eliminating the need for human assistance during takeoff or recovery. This makes it suitable for operations on moving ships and in confined areas.
Additionally, the V-BAT is equipped with SATCOM integration for Beyond-Line-of-Sight command and control, allowing operators to conduct missions globally. It supports multi-payload integration, enhancing its operational flexibility across various domains. The U.S. Coast Guard and Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force have already selected the V-BAT for their ISR operations, highlighting its growing adoption in maritime and expeditionary forces.
