SIME Diagnostics Unveils AI Lung Maturity Test Results

SIME Diagnostics has announced the results of a clinical study on its AI-powered Lung Maturity Test (LMT) for late-preterm newborns, conducted in collaboration with Mayo Clinic. The findings were presented at the Pediatric Academic Societies 2025 Conference in Honolulu. The study involved 207 late-preterm infants and demonstrated that the LMT could accurately predict the need for prolonged respiratory support, aiding in the early identification of infants at risk for respiratory distress announced in a press release.

The AI-based LMT uses a point-of-care device to analyze gastric aspirate samples, measuring biomarkers like lecithin and sphingomyelin to assess lung maturity. This rapid analysis helps clinicians make informed decisions about respiratory support within the first hour of life, potentially reducing unnecessary treatments and interventions. The technology is designed for intensive care settings and aims to improve outcomes for newborns by providing timely, targeted respiratory care.

SIME Diagnostics' LMT is currently under FDA review, with further research planned to refine its application across various hospital environments. The company continues to develop additional AI-powered solutions for respiratory diagnostics.
