Simplex Quantum and University of Tokyo Unveil AI for Heart Failure Monitoring
Simplex Quantum and the University of Tokyo have announced a breakthrough in heart failure monitoring technology, as detailed in a recent press release. The new AI system, published in the International Journal of Cardiology, demonstrates a 91.6% accuracy rate in assessing heart failure severity using single-lead ECG data from devices like the Apple Watch.
Central to this innovation is the HF-index, an AI-derived metric that allows for on-demand monitoring of heart failure severity at home. This technology aims to reduce hospitalizations by enabling earlier clinical intervention. The AI model was trained on ECG data from 9,518 individuals and showed strong correlation with established biomarkers for heart failure.
The system powers Simplex Quantum's investigational software platform, NIHA-HF, which is currently undergoing regulatory submissions in Japan and the United States, with product approvals expected in 2026.
