Sivers Invests $30 Million in Scotland Photonics Plant
Sivers Semiconductors announced in a press release that it will invest $30 million to expand its indium phosphide manufacturing facility in Glasgow, Scotland. The company expects the expansion to support annual production of more than 100 million continuous wave distributed feedback lasers for AI data centers and optical networks.
Work is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2026, with the expanded facility expected to start operations in the fourth quarter of 2027. The project will add process capabilities, automation, and manufacturing flexibility.
Sivers plans to combine expanded internal production with external foundry, packaging, and manufacturing partners. The company expects demand for indium phosphide lasers and semiconductor optical amplifiers to rise as data center operators deploy larger AI clusters and faster network systems.
