Sören Mindermann Joins Tsinghua as AI Safety Professor
Sören Mindermann will move to Beijing in November and join Tsinghua University as an assistant professor focused on frontier AI safety, he wrote in a post. His research will concentrate on risks involving AI systems acting against their developers' intentions, particularly loss of control.
Mindermann also serves as co director of the new Beijing AI Safety Hub at Tsinghua. The hub brings together Chinese and international AI safety researchers and has accepted its first residency cohort. Applications are open for its spring 2027 cohort, visiting positions and a chief of staff role.
He will continue working as technical research lead at the University of Cambridge's AI Science and Policy Programme. Mindermann is also recruiting doctoral students, postdoctoral researchers and other researchers at Tsinghua.
