Spreedly survey finds 63% may let AI choose brands for savings

Sep 30, 2026
A survey of 2,000 US adults found that 63% would or might let an AI shopping assistant choose brands if it consistently saved them 20%. Most respondents would not allow AI to spend without approval.

Spreedly said in a press release that 63% of surveyed US adults would or might let an AI shopping assistant choose brands if it consistently saved them 20% on purchases. The finding comes from an online survey of 2,000 adults conducted by Talker Research from September 3 to September 8, 2026, on behalf of Spreedly.

Younger respondents showed more willingness to abandon brand preferences. Some 34% of Gen Z respondents and 30% of Millennials said they would give up brand loyalty if an AI assistant consistently found the best products at the lowest prices. Among Gen Z, 31% selected ChatGPT as their most trusted source for product research, while 12% selected Google Search.

Respondents were less willing to give AI control over payments. Only 20% would allow an AI assistant to spend without approval, while 16% would permit this only for small purchases. Fraud concerns were cited by 52%, lack of trust in AI companies by 45%, and fear of overspending by 40%.
