Ukrainian Drone Startup Swarmer Raises $18 Million for AI Swarm Control System
Ukrainian drone startup Swarmer has secured $17.9 million in total funding to advance its artificial intelligence system that allows a single operator to control multiple drones at once. Founded in May 2023 by Serhii Kupriienko and Alex Fink, the company raised $2.9 million in a seed round in 2023 and an additional $15 million in Series A funding in September 2025 from U.S.-based investors.
Swarmer’s core product, the Swarmer Platform powered by Styx AI, has been tested in over 82,000 real-world missions. The technology synchronizes the operation of multiple unmanned aircraft and is designed to address the shortage of trained drone pilots. The system maintains human oversight for all strike decisions, with operators retaining final control over engagement.
The company reports that one operator can manage up to 20 drones, though current deployments involve fewer units due to physical preparation requirements. Training for new operators is minimal, with most able to learn the system within an hour. Swarmer is also adapting its platform for larger drones and other robotic systems beyond aerial use.
Initial development was funded through a $70,000 personal investment before attracting support from the D3 venture fund associated with former Google CEO Eric Schmidt. Swarmer’s 45-person team currently operates under commercial contracts and plans to continue expanding its defense capabilities, with potential future applications in areas such as infrastructure inspection and border monitoring after the war.
