SynaXG and Kyocera Launch World's First Software-Defined mmWave 5G vRAN
SynaXG and Kyocera have implemented the world's first software-defined mmWave 5G vRAN on the NVIDIA AI Aerial platform, announced in a press release. This innovative solution utilizes the NVIDIA GH200 Grace Hopper Superchip, marking a significant advancement in AI-native wireless communications.
The new 5G vRAN solution is Open-RAN compliant and combines advanced radio technology with network control units to form a complete 5G mmWave system. It supports AI-and-RAN and AI-for-RAN capabilities, running Layer 1 to Layer 3 functions on the NVIDIA GH200 Superchip. This integration is expected to enhance data transmission speeds, reliability, and resource optimization, paving the way for future 6G networks.
In laboratory trials, the solution demonstrated impressive performance, supporting five carriers with 400 MHz of bandwidth each on a single NVIDIA GH200 superchip, achieving peak throughput of up to 30 Gbps. This performance rivals custom ASIC-based solutions while offering greater flexibility and upgradability.
The AI-RAN solution is designed to transform industries by providing ultra-reliable, high-bandwidth connectivity combined with edge AI processing. SynaXG and Kyocera plan to deploy this technology across various sectors, including smart manufacturing and healthcare, with trials set for the end of 2025.
