Tech Leaders Discuss AI at G20 Forum in Chapel Hill

World leaders and technology executives met in Chapel Hill for a G20 forum focused on AI, economic effects, and regulation. Mark Zuckerberg, Elon Musk, and Demis Hassabis participated, with Sam Altman scheduled to speak on Wednesday.
Technology executives and world leaders met in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, for the G20 Innovation Ministerial on Sept. 1 and 2 to discuss AI, its economic impact, and regulation, WRAL reports.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg spoke Tuesday and said AI could lower the cost of starting a business by reducing the capital and staff needed to begin. He also said AI should be used to create new things rather than only automate existing work.
SpaceX CEO Elon Musk and Google DeepMind Chair Demis Hassabis also participated Tuesday. Hassabis discussed using AI to speed scientific research, including drug development.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is scheduled to speak Wednesday, with U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick leading the day’s discussions. Chapel Hill officials said police presence and traffic would increase around downtown and the Carolina Inn during the forum.
