Teradar Begins Paid Evaluation with Major German Automaker for Terahertz Vision Sensors
Teradar has entered a paid technical evaluation program with one of the world's leading automakers, according to a press release. The German manufacturer is testing Teradar's Summit sensor for use in advanced driver assistance systems and autonomous driving platforms.
The evaluation will measure the sensor's performance in challenging conditions such as fog, rain, dust, and smoke, where traditional lidar, radar, and camera systems often fail. Tests will include detection of small or partially obscured objects, such as a fallen motorcyclist or a stopped vehicle in dense fog, using facilities capable of replicating adverse weather.
The results of the program will determine whether Teradar advances to the automaker's formal bid process for its next generation driving systems. Earlier track tests in Germany showed that Summit met range and performance requirements and enabled vehicle navigation through complex multi-object environments and poor weather.
Teradar's Summit sensor uses terahertz vision technology to provide high resolution imaging in all lighting and weather conditions. The company is based in Boston and was founded by engineers from MIT and Stanford with expertise in chip design and automotive systems.
