TIER IV to Develop Digital Infrastructure for Autonomous Buses in Japan
TIER IV has been selected by the Japanese government's New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) to develop digital infrastructure for transport networks, as announced in a press release. This initiative aims to enhance the deployment of autonomous buses by creating a 'digital lifeline' that integrates road infrastructure and data systems.
The project will focus on enabling the operation of autonomous bus fleets under remote supervision and improving service availability through integration with roadside infrastructure. By addressing challenges such as labor shortages in the transportation sector, the initiative seeks to establish a sustainable and efficient transport network across Japan.
TIER IV, known for its development of Autoware, an open-source software for autonomous driving, will leverage its expertise to develop service-support roads. These roads will share real-time data with vehicles via vehicle-to-network communication, augmenting on-board autonomous driving systems. The collaboration with NEDO and other partners aims to accelerate the deployment of autonomous driving technology and ensure the long-term sustainability of regional public transportation.
