TreQ Deploys Open Architecture Quantum Testbed in the UK

Apr 23, 2026
TreQ has deployed its Open Architecture Quantum Testbed, a multi-vendor system that enables eight configurations across independent processor, control, and software layers. The system is part of Innovate UK's Quantum Mission Pilot and allows reconfiguration and performance evaluation without hardware changes.

TreQ has deployed its Open Architecture Quantum (OAQ) Testbed, a multi-vendor quantum computing system now in operation, announced in a press release. The system is part of the Quantum Mission Pilot run by Innovate UK.

The OAQ Testbed integrates independent processor, control, and software layers through defined interfaces, enabling eight distinct configurations within a single three-rack setup. The configuration can be switched via software, allowing users to compare performance across different hardware combinations without recabling or cycling the system.

TreQ’s testbed includes components from companies such as Rigetti, Q-CTRL, Qruise, Quantum Machines, Qblox, and Oxford Ionics. It supports both superconducting and ion trap processors and incorporates open-source interface specifications to ensure compatibility and portability between hardware systems.

The system was designed and deployed within three months and is now being used by partners to evaluate and integrate new technologies across the quantum computing supply chain.
