UpKeep Survey Finds Maintenance Teams Adopt AI Without Company Programs
UpKeep said in a press release that 67.8% of surveyed maintenance and operations professionals use AI at least occasionally. The survey also found that 55.4% work for organizations with no AI in place for maintenance or operations, while 27.8% both use AI and work at such organizations.
Among directors and vice presidents of operations, 56% said their concern about falling behind on AI had increased over the past year. Only 13.7% of that group said their workplace regularly uses AI in daily work, compared with 27.4% of all respondents.
Paperwork was the most common area where respondents expected AI to help, selected by 43.1%. Tasks included preparing work orders, searching manuals and records, and reporting to leadership. Another 69.3% said their teams change processes to fit their software at least sometimes, while 11% said their software adapts to their processes.
UpKeep conducted the online survey from September 1 to September 14, 2026. It included 518 maintenance and operations professionals drawn from the company's customer and prospect lists across eight industry groups and eight role groups.
