US Urges G20 to Avoid New AI Oversight Bodies
The U.S. Government urged G20 members to avoid creating new AI rules and oversight bodies at a technology meeting in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Reuters reports.
U.S. tech adviser Michael Kratsios promoted the Carolina Principles during the meeting. He said countries that adopt them would reserve new regulation for novel AI issues, invest in foundational research, and support commercial opportunities for new technology.
The meeting included executives and officials from major AI and technology companies. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Google DeepMind cofounder Demis Hassabis were set to address ministers by video, while OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang were scheduled to appear separately with Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick.
The meeting is part of a series of gatherings in U.S. cities before the G20 leaders summit in Miami in December.
