Uswitch survey finds 39% would ask AI instead of a solicitor

A survey of 2,000 adults found that 39% would consider asking AI instead of a solicitor about a legal question.

A survey of 2,000 adults by Uswitch found that 39% would consider asking AI instead of a solicitor about a legal question, according to Legal Futures. Respondents cited faster answers, constant availability and lower costs as their main reasons.

The wider survey found that 18% had made a personal decision based only on chatbot advice without seeking a second opinion. That figure rose to 40% among Generation Z respondents.

Nearly a quarter of people who had used AI for general advice said it gave them incorrect guidance that caused a problem. Uswitch said AI can help explain legal terms or provide an overview, but cannot ask follow up questions or tailor advice to a person's circumstances as a solicitor can.
