Waters launches AI Link for laboratory instruments

Waters AI Link connects its laboratory software and instruments with Claude and other AI agents through Anthropic's Model Context Protocol.

Waters Corporation announces in a press release the launch of Waters AI Link, which brings the Model Context Protocol from Anthropic to its waters_connect software. The company has also joined Anthropic's Model Hardware Standard research program.

Waters AI Link lets customers connect waters_connect to Claude and other large language models and AI agents through a natural language interface. Agents can create methods, run data acquisitions, process results and control connected devices such as sample preparation systems without custom integration.

The Model Hardware Standard is designed to let AI agents operate laboratory instruments, liquid handlers and robotic arms. Waters says the connection will support automated testing of AI generated hypotheses, with measurements returned to the model for subsequent experiments.

Waters AI Link is available in early access and will become generally available to waters_connect customers in November 2026. Waters joined the Model Hardware Standard research program immediately.
