WorldSkills Adds Drone Assembly and Autonomous Flight Event

The 48th WorldSkills Competition introduced an Unmanned Aerial Systems event that tests drone assembly, programming, and autonomous flight.

WorldSkills introduced an Unmanned Aerial Systems event at its 48th competition in Shanghai, according to an SMG report released in a press statement. The competition opened on September 22 and brought together young professionals from around the world.

Competitors must assemble a drone from more than 200 parts, program its flight control system, and complete an autonomous flight within 18 hours. The tasks cover mechanical assembly, electronics, computer programming, and artificial intelligence.

The event reflects demand for workers who can build, program, test, and maintain unmanned aircraft. Shanghai Business and Information College plans to introduce a program covering drone assembly, tuning, and maintenance, with capacity for about 100 students.
