XtalPi Advances Hair Loss Drug Into IND Enabling Studies

Oct 5, 2026
XtalPi has started pharmacology, safety and manufacturing studies for a hair loss drug candidate ahead of a planned Investigational New Drug application.

XtalPi said in a press release that its hair loss drug program has entered studies supporting a future Investigational New Drug application. Pharmacology, safety, and chemistry, manufacturing and controls studies are underway.

The candidate targets a lactate and autophagy pathway intended to reactivate dormant hair follicle stem cells. In a mouse model of androgenetic alopecia induced by dihydrotestosterone, the candidate produced a hair growth score comparable to 5% topical minoxidil at one hundredth of its concentration, according to preliminary company data.

XtalPi used AI guided molecular design, physics based free energy perturbation calculations, and robotic synthesis and testing to optimize the candidate. The company is evaluating its mechanism, dose response, pharmacokinetics, safety margins, and suitability for topical treatment.
