Yelp adds AI calls for restaurant wait times

Yelp is adding Check for Me, an AI feature that calls restaurants for wait times and sends the results by text. The company is also updating its assistant and introducing a paid tool for businesses.

Yelp Inc. is adding an AI feature that calls restaurants to check wait times, according to TechCrunch. Check for Me lets app users enter their party size and phone number from a restaurant page, then texts them the result of the call.

Yelp is also updating its AI assistant with OpenTable bookings inside the app, memory of preferences from earlier chats and access to 30 days of chat history. Users can create reminders and lists, while weekly recommendations based on saved places and rankings will begin appearing next month.

For businesses, Yelp is introducing Smart Lead Reply for $30 a month. The AI tool can answer customer messages, collect information to qualify sales leads and follow instructions set by the business owner.
