Only 9% of Young People in England Say Education Prepares Them for AI

A survey of 4,021 people aged 11 to 24 found that 87% have used AI, while only 9% believe education is preparing them very well for it.

Only 9% of young people surveyed in England believe schools and universities are preparing them very well for a world with AI, according to Sky News. Nearly half said they trust AI over a person when checking facts, with young men more likely to prefer AI.

Public First surveyed 4,021 people aged 11 to 24 in August. The survey found that nearly 87% had used an AI tool. The results appeared in a report by historian Sir Anthony Seldon and technology entrepreneur Tim Bunting.

The report calls for a 10 point government action plan, including a rapid response AI unit within the Department for Education and a network of 100 schools and colleges focused on AI. The government said it is developing safe AI tutoring tools, investing £23 million in testing education technology, and updating the curriculum to include digital skills and identifying disinformation.
