YouTube Expands AI Likeness Detection to Celebrities

YouTube has expanded its likeness detection technology to the entertainment industry, announced on its blog. The system, which identifies AI generated content that replicates a person's face, is now available to talent agencies, management companies, and the celebrities they represent.

The tool functions similarly to YouTube's Content ID system. It scans uploaded videos for matches of enrolled participants' faces, allowing them to request removal of videos that misuse their likeness. This can be done even if the individual does not have a YouTube channel.

Major agencies including CAA, UTA, WME, and Untitled Management have supported the rollout and provided feedback during development. YouTube stated that the feature will later expand to include voice detection capabilities.

The company has also expressed support for the proposed NO FAKES Act, which aims to regulate unauthorized digital recreations of an individual's likeness and voice.
