Ricursive Intelligence Details AI System for Chip Design
At TechCrunch Disrupt on October 14, Ricursive Intelligence founders Anna Goldie and Azalia Mirhoseini detailed an AI system that designs chips, learns from each iteration, and improves later designs, according to TechCrunch. Goldie said compute demand could rise at least 10,000 times over the next five years, creating a need for chips that use data center bandwidth and manufacturing capacity more efficiently.
The startup is optimizing entire chips instead of dividing them into smaller blocks. Its AI can produce unconventional layouts, including circular and wave shaped patterns. AlphaChip, a system previously developed by the founders, created a circular arrangement of components that performed successfully despite initially surprising engineers.
Ricursive Intelligence says automating more of the process could reduce chip design cycles from several months or years to about a week. That could support custom chips for applications including space systems, augmented reality, virtual reality, and biological computing.
