Russia orders private data centers to reserve 10% of capacity
Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree requiring data centers outside state ownership to reserve 10% of their capacity for government use, Data Center Dynamics reports. Operators must provide access with 24 hours notice.
The decree instructs the Digital Development Ministry of the Government of Russia to study available capacity and floor space at privately owned data centers across the country. It also permits the state to use data centers outside Russia temporarily, subject to approval from the FSB security service.
Putin signed the order amid drone attacks on Russian data centers. Facilities operated by Yandex, Sberbank and VK have been targeted.
