Starling Bank Deploys AI Agent for Financial Crime Investigations

Oct 21, 2026
Starling Bank has deployed an AI agent embedded in its core engine that it says completes a financial crime investigation in 17 seconds.

Starling Bank has deployed an agentic "financial crime investigator" that it says can carry out an end-to-end investigation within 17 seconds, Finextra reports. Writing on LinkedIn, chief customer and banking officer Bernadette Smith said the agent fully investigates a transaction monitoring alert, documents the audit trail and delivers a decision.

The agent is embedded in the bank's core engine rather than added as a third-party plugin. Smith said that gives it access to real-time telemetry, historical behaviour patterns and transaction context, with Starling owning the data and the model.

Starling is also working with NVIDIA on a transactional foundation model trained and hosted in a UK sovereign cloud, set to go into production in early 2027 and focused first on fraud detection.

Tensordyne Napier: What If One Rack Could Do the Work of Nine?

Tensordyne

This Tensordyne whitepaper presents Napier, an inference-focused AI processor and rack-scale system based on the company’s TDN Math logarithmic number system. It examines infrastructure requirements for large mixture-of-experts and agentic models, compares major inference architecture approaches, and details the TDN AIP processor, TDN72 pod, TDN Link fabric, and Napier Ultra configuration. The paper reports simulation-based performance, cost, and accuracy-validation results, including Tensordyne’s projected comparison of one Napier rack with a nine-rack Nvidia Rubin plus Groq deployment; the chip is reported as taped out and in fabrication.
