Verana Health and Bitfount Detail AI Prescreening for Eye Trials
Verana Health and Bitfount detail their previously disclosed collaboration on patient prescreening for ophthalmic clinical trials in a press release. The system combines ophthalmic images with electronic health record data to assess patients against trial criteria.
Bitfount analyzes existing optical coherence tomography or fundus scans locally at participating sites. It sends an imaging eligibility flag to Verana Trial Connect, where researchers can view it alongside criteria derived from health records. Results are also available through Bitfount's on premises application.
The companies say the process can reduce manual chart reviews and screen failures without changing existing imaging systems or data privacy procedures. The approach was clinically validated in a study with Moorfields Eye Hospital.
