Anthropic Gives $900,000 to California Democratic Committees Before Election
Anthropic gave $900,000 to Democratic committees and voter outreach groups across California, according to The San Francisco Standard. A disclosure filed Friday shows that $525,000 went to the California Democratic Party and $150,000 went to a group focused on increasing voter participation.
The company also gave $45,000 each to Democratic parties in San Francisco, San Mateo, Orange, Fresno and Siskiyou counties. The San Francisco party said no conditions were attached to its contribution.
Anthropic previously gave $850,000 to the California Democratic Party and more than $100,000 to Democratic legislative candidates during 2026. Nationally, it has given $40 million this year to Public First Action, a group that advocates for AI regulation, The Standard reports. OpenAI has also spent in California, mostly on ballot measures, matching Anthropic's $500,000 contributions to Prop. H and Prop. 1.
Anthropic employees gave a combined $3.83 million to federal campaigns in the first half of the year, according to The Standard's analysis, and Anthropic staff are also the biggest AI donors to Minnesota candidates.
