Anthropic Reports Early Claude Results in Drug Development

Oct 27, 2026
Anthropic says Claude has supported drug design, laboratory analysis, regulatory documentation, and clinical trial planning in projects with six life sciences organizations.

Anthropic detailed in a company blog post early results from using Claude in drug development projects with six organizations. The partners are BigHat Biosciences, Bristol Myers Squibb, Divergence Labs, Enveda, Generate Biomedicines, and The Column Group.

Generate scientists used Claude Code to design a genetic component for CAR T therapy that was about 70% shorter than the standard version and produced roughly 10 times as many receptors in lab tests. Divergence used Claude to generate about 35,000 antibody designs for a potential food allergy treatment, while BigHat tested about 1,010 Claude proposed variants of two antibody fragments.

Enveda connected its manufacturing documents to Claude for quality review. In tests covering 1,061 pages, Claude identified all 11 issues found by human reviewers and seven additional issues, while reducing human review time by 89%. Bristol Myers Squibb is using Claude to analyze proprietary data, prepare clinical study plans, and estimate the likelihood that early clinical trials will succeed.

Anthropic also acquired Mithril Medicine, whose founder used Claude to coordinate work with 11 external labs on treatments for rare forms of muscular dystrophy. The company said most of the reported work remains preclinical, although it plans to extend Claude's role into clinical trials as the programs progress.
