Elizabeth Warren Questions Anthropic on AI Safety Before IPO
Sen. Elizabeth Warren is asking Anthropic to explain its AI safety controls and financial risks before its planned initial public offering, CFO Dive reports.
Warren asked CEO Dario Amodei whether Anthropic's models pose an existential threat and what safeguards could prevent loss of control, autonomous cyberattacks, biological weapons development and other dangerous uses. She also warned that the company's size and possible share-price swings could affect broader markets, given its financial ties to major technology companies. The Wall Street Journal first reported the letter.
Anthropic filed a registration statement with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday for an offering of Class A common stock. It plans to list on Nasdaq under the ticker ANT but has not disclosed the number of shares or a price range. Warren requested answers by Nov. 3.
