National Grid Plans Britain’s Biggest Substation Near Teesside AI Data Centre
National Grid has agreed to buy 29.5 hectares at Dorman Point in Teesside for a proposed electricity substation, The Guardian reports. The project could become Britain’s biggest substation and supply power to a planned AI data centre nearby.
The land is owned by Teesworks, a private and public partnership. The deal follows reports last year that the UK government had picked Teesworks as the site for a new AI data centre, and planning applications have been submitted for a project spanning nearly 500,000 square metres. The deal was first reported by Sky News.
Tees Valley mayor Ben Houchen said the site could have up to 3.2 GW of electricity capacity. "Everyone who has tried to build a datacentre in this country knows the biggest problem is getting enough power to the site quickly," Houchen told Sky News. Balfour Beatty was reported to be in line to deliver the substation for National Grid.

Tensordyne Napier: What If One Rack Could Do the Work of Nine?
Tensordyne
This Tensordyne whitepaper presents Napier, an inference-focused AI processor and rack-scale system based on the company’s TDN Math logarithmic number system. It examines infrastructure requirements for large mixture-of-experts and agentic models, compares major inference architecture approaches, and details the TDN AIP processor, TDN72 pod, TDN Link fabric, and Napier Ultra configuration. The paper reports simulation-based performance, cost, and accuracy-validation results, including Tensordyne’s projected comparison of one Napier rack with a nine-rack Nvidia Rubin plus Groq deployment; the chip is reported as taped out and in fabrication.
