Elvis Presley Music Owners Sue Anthropic Over AI Training

The owners of Elvis Presley's music accuse Anthropic of using 274 copyrighted songs without permission to train its AI models.

Billboard reports that the owners of Elvis Presley's music sued Anthropic on Oct. 23, accusing the company of using 274 copyrighted songs without permission to train its AI models. The works include "Can't Help Falling in Love," "A Little Less Conversation" and "Don't Be Cruel."

A unit of Authentic Brands Group filed the case with other entities that own rights to Presley's music. The lawsuit claims Anthropic used the songs to create technology that produces unlicensed derivative works.

AI companies have argued that using copyrighted material for model training is protected by fair use. Anthropic did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
