The UK AI sector employed an estimated 130,400 people and generated £33.6 billion in revenue in 2025, while dedicated AI companies raised £6.3 billion.

A 2025 sector study from the UK Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), published by the UK government, estimates that UK AI revenue rose 41% to £33.6 billion. Employment in AI related roles increased 51% to about 130,400 people, while gross value added rose 58% to £18.6 billion.

The study identified 10,488 AI companies, up 79% from 2024, although part of the increase came from broader coverage and changes in how companies describe their services. About 1,750 new AI companies were incorporated during 2025. Dedicated AI companies accounted for 68% of the total, compared with 56% in 2024, and their revenue almost doubled to £9.2 billion.

Dedicated AI companies raised £6.3 billion in 2025, more than twice the previous year's amount. Rounds worth at least £100 million represented about 60% of investment value. Access to equity was cited as a significant barrier by 61% of surveyed businesses, while 72% reported increased computing requirements and 91% of compute users expected costs to rise.
