Army AI Pilot Cuts Civilian Hiring Time to 47 Days
A Pentagon pilot that introduced AI and consolidated recruiting steps cut the U.S. Army's average civilian hiring time from 161 days to 47, Michael Cogar, who oversees the Defense Department's civilian personnel policies, said at the Association of the U.S. Army's annual conference, Federal News Network reports.
AI analysis tools and new workflows cut the time spent before a job is posted from 40 days to six and shortened the selection phase from 18 days to four. HR specialists can use AI to generate job announcements, vet resumes and present a slate of candidates, Cogar said.
The pilot was run by the Army's Civilian Human Resources Agency, its Military Entrance Processing Command and the Defense Logistics Agency. Cogar did not say how many people were hired through it or how it could be scaled across the military.
The U.S. Department of Defense aims to make firm job offers within 30 days of a posting, and has overhauled 11 direct-hire authority policies.
