Malaysia Seizes 30 Servers With Advanced AI Chips

Malaysian customs seized 30 servers containing advanced AI chips in a suspected export control violation. The shipment was valued at about $12.2 million.

Malaysia's customs department seized 30 servers containing advanced AI chips in a suspected export control violation, according to AP. Officials intercepted the shipment, valued at about 50 million ringgit ($12.2 million), at Kuala Lumpur International Airport's free trade zone on October 15.

The servers came from an Asian country and were declared as electrical components. Authorities said the shipment was intended for reexport to another Asian country without the required permit.

The Malaysian Government introduced permit requirements in 2025 for the export, transit and transshipment of advanced AI chips of US origin. Customs officials believe the shipment is linked to a syndicate behind five smuggling attempts, including the seizure of 72 servers in June. A Malaysian company that facilitated the latest shipment is assisting the investigation.
