SoftBank's Son Plans $50 Billion AI Investment in Malaysia, PM Says

SoftBank Group founder Masayoshi Son plans to invest $50 billion in artificial intelligence, new technology and data centres in Malaysia, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said, Bloomberg reported.

Anwar said Son told him during a video call last week that he had chosen Kuching in Sarawak and peninsular Malaysia for the investment, which Anwar called among the largest in the region. The prime minister first disclosed the plan on Saturday without naming the investor. SoftBank did not immediately respond to a request for comment, The Business Times reported.

SoftBank is already working on a $500 billion data centre project in Ohio and a project in France worth up to 75 billion euros.
