Lucas Systems and Carnegie Mellon University are researching new tools for warehouse workforce planning, the company said in a press release. The project uses warehouse data to help supervisors make workforce and task decisions.

Students in Carnegie Mellon University's Master of Science in Applied Data Science program studied hundreds of data attributes concerning warehouse users and behavior during spring 2026. They produced prediction models for the project.

Lucas Systems plans to use the research as a foundation for software that organizes operational data and presents relevant planning signals to warehouse supervisors.
