UK FCA Clarifies AI Rules for Financial Firms

Oct 21, 2026
The UK Financial Conduct Authority says existing rules require financial firms to establish clear accountability, controls, human oversight and resilience plans for their use of AI.

The UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) clarified how its existing rules apply to financial firms using AI, according to Compliance Corylated. Senior managers must ensure firms have skilled staff, controls suited to the risks and clear boundaries for AI use.

Boards and senior managers must define accountability, human oversight and escalation triggers before adopting AI. The regulator found that some firms excluded vulnerable consumers from AI services without offering another route, while flawed guardrails directed some customers toward unsuitable products.

The FCA said firms should include AI systems in operational resilience plans, test systems independently and maintain fallback options. Firms should also assess dependence on individual models, platforms and providers rather than relying only on assurances from third party suppliers.

The regulator also asked large language model providers to display prominent notices that their tools do not provide financial advice. It said many consumers do not understand that acting on such information may leave them without access to the Financial Ombudsman Service or the Financial Services Compensation Scheme.

Tensordyne Napier: What If One Rack Could Do the Work of Nine?

Tensordyne

This Tensordyne whitepaper presents Napier, an inference-focused AI processor and rack-scale system based on the company’s TDN Math logarithmic number system. It examines infrastructure requirements for large mixture-of-experts and agentic models, compares major inference architecture approaches, and details the TDN AIP processor, TDN72 pod, TDN Link fabric, and Napier Ultra configuration. The paper reports simulation-based performance, cost, and accuracy-validation results, including Tensordyne’s projected comparison of one Napier rack with a nine-rack Nvidia Rubin plus Groq deployment; the chip is reported as taped out and in fabrication.
